15.10.2018: Hessian candidates in the "HR-Kandidatencheck"

The state election in Hesse will take place on October 28, 2018; the Party for Health Research is running in it with a state list and can be elected with the second vote. In their video interviews for the "HR-Kandidatencheck", the Hessian candidates Dennis Rudolph, Georg Diederichs and Albrecht Völklein each named good reasons to choose the Party for Health Research in the election in Hesse on October 28. Here are the links to the individual contributions:

With the nomination of this list and the intended participation in the election, the Party for Health Research wants to advance its core concern, that more money should be invested in health research, at the European level as well. The party is confident that it will gather the 4,000 supporting signatures required nationwide for participation in the election over the next few months, in order to successfully take part in the election to the European Parliament in 2019. All eligible voters are asked to enable the Party for Health Research to take part in the election by giving a supporting signature.

04.09.2018: Already 11 state associations

On September 18, 2018, the Schleswig-Holstein state association of the Party for Health Research was founded in Kiel. This means we now already have 11 state associations. So only five are still missing, namely in Hamburg, Bremen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt and Saarland.

31.08.2018: Also taking part in the state election in Hesse!

After Bavaria, the Party for Health Research will also be on the ballot in the state election in Hesse. Today the State Electoral Committee in Wiesbaden unanimously decided to admit the party to the state election on October 28, 2018. For the still young and relatively small Hessian state association, this is a great success, owed above all to the courageous efforts of the candidates and the commitment of numerous helpers. Heartfelt thanks to all of them for this. The fact that the party is also standing for election in Hesse will certainly further advance our basic concern of investing more money in health research.

05.08.2018: Taking part in the state election in Bavaria!

For the first time, the Party for Health Research is on the ballot in the state election in Bavaria. Starting from scratch, the party succeeded in gathering the necessary supporting signatures in 4 of 7 electoral districts in order to be able to run there with its own candidates in the election. In the meantime, the signatures have been verified, certified and submitted on time.

2,000 supporting signatures were needed for Upper Bavaria. For Middle Franconia it was 1,278. For Upper Franconia 850. And for the Upper Palatinate another 850. In total, over 5,000 supporting signatures were collected in Bavaria, which was only possible thanks to the tireless efforts of the candidates and numerous helpers. Heartfelt thanks to all of them for their commitment and their active support.

This means that the Party for Health Research can also present itself in Bavaria, a federal state that is large in area and population, as an electable alternative to the major parties in the election on October 14, 2018. Above all, this provides the opportunity to bring the central topic of "health research" more strongly into the focus of an interested public.

22.04.2018: New advisory board member Professor Steve Horvath

Professor Steve Horvath has joined our advisory board. The Frankfurt native is a professor of human genetics and biostatistics at the University of California, Los Angeles. His areas of expertise include aging research, and his research group works on cancer, cardiovascular diseases and neurodegenerative diseases, among other things.

In the WDR programme Quarks (episode "Die Uhr des Lebens", 2018), Steve Horvath talked about his discovery, which makes it possible to determine the biological age of people very precisely. The episode is no longer available in the ARD Mediathek.

10.04.2018: Conference against age-related diseases in Berlin

From March 13 to 15, the Undoing Aging conference (www.undoing-aging.org) took place in Berlin, one of the world's leading conferences in the field of research against age-related diseases.

The topic of the conference was a scientific approach that aims to repair the fundamental causes of age-related diseases, namely the harmful molecular and cellular changes that accumulate in the body over the course of life, and thus both prevent and cure age-related diseases.

A total of about 350 participants from 36 countries took part, including 17 members of the Party for Health Research.

Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn - scientist and Nobel laureate - reported in her TED Talk from November 2017 on revealing findings and the potential of modern regenerative medicine.

Dr. Blackburn is a pioneer of molecular biology. In 2009 she received the Nobel Prize for her research into the molecular structure of telomeres, which are the ends of our chromosomes (chromosomes contain our genetic information, bundled and stored as DNA), and for the co-discovery of telomerase activity - telomerase is the enzyme that regenerates our telomeres, because they degenerate and shorten with age as cell division steadily progresses. If our telomeres become too short, signs of aging appear along with an increased risk of suffering from age-related diseases. Telomeres and telomerase play a central role in the aging process and in age-associated diseases, as well as in understanding cancer.

She was also president of the American Association for Cancer Research and of the American Society for Cell Biology.

In the TED Talk, besides her past and her early interest in biological questions, Dr. Blackburn also talks about the fact that telomeres do not shorten over time in all organisms. Algae in ponds, for example, always maintain their telomerase concentration regardless of the age of their cells - biologically speaking, they do not age and do not become senescent, because their telomeres are permanently renewed by the enzyme. She also discusses further findings, such as that negative psychological factors, for example poor stress management, influence the presence of telomerase in our cells and that chronic mental strain can lead to premature aging. Conversely, it has been shown that positive social conditions such as lifelong friendships or partnerships lead to better maintenance of telomerase activity in old age. So through our lifestyle and our psyche, we have the opportunity to actively influence the extension of our healthspan in old age.

Toward the end of her talk, Dr. Blackburn says that she is curious how these findings will affect the next generation of people. It depends, she says, on whether we invest in the next generation of scientists who want to discover solutions to medical questions that we have not even considered yet.

July 28, 2017: Party for Health Research officially admitted to the federal election

After very intensive signature collecting, the Party for Health Research has reached an important milestone at the federal level: It was admitted to the 2017 federal election, and thus to a federal election for the first time ever in its still young history. We succeeded in collecting enough supporting signatures to be on the ballot both in the two most populous federal states, North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria, and in Berlin. Thanks to the record number of over 6,000 signatures collected, we can be elected by over 40 percent of eligible voters.

A heartfelt thank you to all helpers!

We, the Party for Health Research, now need your help! This is a great opportunity to significantly accelerate the research and development of therapies against widespread age-related diseases.

Because we are taking part in the election, we are entitled to advertise ourselves and our topic in the streets with election posters. We would like to put up hundreds of election posters - or thousands, that is entirely up to you. First of all, we need excellent, eye-catching designs as soon as possible. The dimensions are 594 x 841 mm (although, with sufficient donations, we could also print even larger posters). - By the way, we also welcome suggestions for slogans and motifs for the posters! The better the designs and slogans, the more donations we will probably receive! And of course we would be all the more pleased if you decided to make a donation right now.

1. STARTING NOW: Please send us your poster designs and slogans! - kontakt@parteifuergesundheitsforschung.de

We want to order the posters as soon as possible.

2. STARTING NOW: We ask you to consider a donation! It will in any case be used exclusively for financing election posters. Thank you very much!

Official dates:

Sunday, August 6 - Start of the official permission to put up election posters in Berlin - in some other cities, different times apply.

Sunday, September 24 - 2017 federal election
