On October 28, 2018, a new state parliament was also elected in Hesse. The Party for Health Research, which ran for the first time with 5 list candidates and had previously collected over 1,000 supporting signatures from the population, received 3,572 votes according to the official final result, which corresponds to 0.1 percent of the votes.
It was a disadvantage for our party that we did not field any constituency candidates, but only ran with a state list. As a result, we could only be elected with the second vote. In addition, due to a lack of financial and human resources, it was not possible for us to run a comprehensive election campaign with posters, information stands and flyers.
On the positive side, however, despite these handicaps we were able to achieve a solid mid-table position among the phalanx of small parties that also ran in the election. This shows that with our central demand (an additional 1% of the state budget for health research) we reached numerous voters in Hesse.
This was possible above all through the use of the internet and social networks as well as through television (Hessenschau and campaign ad). Heartfelt thanks to all candidates, members and other supporters of our party for their efforts. Our thanks of course go equally to all eligible voters in Hesse who gave us their vote in the state election. Democracy thrives on participation. We participated, and - despite difficult conditions for us - quite successfully.
