In November 2022, the Party for Rejuvenation Research changed its name.
Before that, since its founding in 2015, it had borne the name "Party for Health Research" (Partei für Gesundheitsforschung). However, the party's concern has not changed, only its communication.
Among the leading aging researchers, the view has now become established that the cure of diseases of old age such as cancer or Alzheimer's requires addressing their common cause - that is, ultimately aging itself. Until recently, however, the party did not mention the resulting life extension. Now it emphasizes life extension in order to generate more attention for the topic. This also includes the title, which describes very specifically what the party is about: more rejuvenation research. "Health research", on the other hand, is a very broad term that also includes, for example, nutrition and sports (but also rejuvenation research). That is why many people misunderstood the old party name.
Here we write about why a healthy lifestyle raises the lifespan by only a few years.
Until the next name change in October 2024, our party was then called "Partei für schulmedizinische Verjüngungsforschung" (Party for Biomedical Rejuvenation Research). The party used the attribute "schulmedizinisch" (conventional medical) to distinguish itself from esotericism and movements such as homeopathy. Since the second half of the 19th century, "Schulmedizin" (conventional medicine) has unfortunately often been misused as a polemical term to disparage scientific medicine. In using the word, the party explicitly drew on the other meaning that the word has: the medicine that is taught at universities today - that is, evidence-based medicine.
The reason why the party chose "schulmedizinisch" and not directly "evidenzbasiert" (evidence-based) is that not everyone knows and understands the latter word.
Since the insertion "schulmedizinisch" is nevertheless perceived negatively by many and apparently comes across as unserious, the party renamed itself "Party for Rejuvenation Research" (Partei für Verjüngungsforschung) on October 11, 2024. This also makes the name shorter and catchier.
